Darren Gin AKA Dj Orbit became infatuated with the art of Djing at the tender age of 10 (1991). His oldest sister's friend arrived at their home with two turntables, vinyl, speakers, and a mixer. Dj Orbit was mesmerized by the movements it took to produce a smooth sound. Fast forward 6 years, Dj Orbit was able to save enough money to purchase his first mixer, a 19" Gemini mixer. He connected 2 single compact disc players to the mixer and this began is passion and love for Djing.

What was your first job?
My first gig was for my cousin Denise's school club. I was compensated $60.00.

How many hours per day did you practice?
With anything and everything you do in life, it is important to practice and follow through. I spent countless hours after school and on the weekends crafting this art. I would come home from school by 3:15pm and practice from 4pm-10pm everyday.

What is your favorite type of music?
Hip Hop, Rock, Reggae, Top 40, Pop, Motown, Breaks, & Electro.

What equipment do you currently use?
My set up consists of Technics 1200, MacBook Pro, Pioneed Djm 909, Serato Scratch Live, Shure M447, Akai MPD 24. I really like the simplicity of the MacBookPro but mixing and scratching from viynl records is the best way to learn the art.

What type of events do you do?
I do all different types of gigs, clubs, weddings, birthdays, corporate parties, and any social events that requires music.

How do you prepare for a club or event?
I browse through my music catalog, listen to mixed tapes produced by other Dj’s, and I religiously listen to the radio. I normally take naps before a gig so I can stay fresh throughout the night.

Do you play any instruments?
The only instrument I play is the turntable AKA turntablism. I wish I learned the piano.

What are some of your hobbies?
Playing golf, basketball, jogging, & airsoft

Who in the world of Djing has influenced you?
Dj Qbert, Dj Eman, Dj A.M., Dj Hideo, Mixmaster Mike, & Local Dj’s

Do you have suggestions for anyone who wants to become a Dj?
There will be critics out there who tell you “you aren’t good”. Never let those words have a negative effect on you. Always inhale negative feedback as “positive criticism”. Have an open mind, experiment, and practice, practice, practice.
